      Something else:

Islamic banking in Russia may ease effect of sanctions – head of Sberbank

Herman Gref, the head of Russia’s largest bank Sberbank, welcomed the introduction of Islamic banking in the country’s traditionally Muslim regions, saying it would help attract capital from Arab countries.

“We will actively promote the development of such a tool as Islamic banking, as it opens up a good opportunity to work with international partners amid sanctions,” said Gref on Friday at a shareholders meeting.

      ,,,,

Usury or any other activity that involves receiving interest income is unacceptable in Islam. Financial transactions should be based on a real trade or business and should not be connected with activities prohibited by Sharia law, such as gambling or alcohol.

    Dear The Saker,

Kudrin seems to be trying to become relevant again. The dubious distinction of Euromoney best Finance Minister says it all…..

Since the beginning of the year, several British hedge fund managers have been predicting that Putin will appoint Kudrin prime minister in August 2015. The idea is that Kudrin will be able to conduct a sweeping political purge, Yeltsin-style privatization, and geopolitical surrender while most Russians are away on holiday and therefore unable to react. See, for example, the following:

[MOD: sorry, don’t go posting links seekingalpha.com, which is full of scurrilous nonsense written by Sorcha Faal — who is a CIA agent trying to make people believe the nonsense he writes, so they can then be discredited as crazy conspiracy theorists. Don’t fall for it.]

      • Bill on June 02, 2015  ·  at 2:30 am EST/EDT

Why am I not surprised you’re ‘anon’ – go away troll. Putin will NEVER ‘do a Yeltsin’!!!

        • Anonymous on June 02, 2015  ·  at 4:37 am EST/EDT

Indeed Putin was appointed by yeltsin as prime minister and later granted him amnesty and immunity from prosecution.

          • Nussiminen on June 02, 2015  ·  at 7:15 am EST/EDT

And what would be the point in prosecuting a bumbling, old alcoholic? Putin was “indeed” appointed by Yeltsin — are you suggesting this invalidates the verdict of the Russian people on the two of them?

          • Cassandra on June 02, 2015  ·  at 7:46 am EST/EDT

Well, that should pay off any lingering debt in full, wouldn’t you think?

    • sejmon on June 01, 2015  ·  at 10:40 pm EST/EDT

Something very strange… Saker from http://www.whatdoesitmean.com regard “accident” of J.Kerry do not know what to think about it…..

      • anon on June 01, 2015  ·  at 11:19 pm EST/EDT

might want to take a look at who the article was written by, which I believe has previously been discredited.

Just out of curiosity, are there any readers here who managed to learn some Russian (the language) recently ? is it an easy language to learn ?

Not sure – but I do know it’s easy to forget! (I am a bit lazy though)

    • mjm on June 02, 2015  ·  at 6:26 am EST/EDT

I’m learning in a small class. Before that I found the site linked above by the moderator pretty helpful. I also suggest Fennell’s “The Penguin Russian Course” which is available in shops like abebooks.com and awesomebooks.com.

It’s a little difficult to learn, but I find it enjoyable. And as my teacher says, motivation is everything. One small step after another and you’ll master it — just takes time and application.

If you start learning, I suggest you immerse yourself in the language via headphones full of MP3s. I put my player on repeat for songs, and speeches by Vladimir Vladimirovich.

    • Vineyard Moderator - K.L. on June 02, 2015  ·  at 6:54 am EST/EDT

I have studied several languages in my life, among them Greek, Japanese (and medieval Bengali).
I learned enough to be able to read texts and engage in simple conversation (although by now I have forgotten most, due to not using them).

Now I am studying Russian language, and I say it is more difficult than all the others. I study a couple of hours every day (started 6 months ago).
I admire all people who have learnt to speak Russian as 2nd, 3d, 4th..language, and I encourage everybody to start learning Russian. The next decades it will become one of the most important World languages, so especially if you are young, take the chance and start learning it. It will be useful for you, and you yourself can be useful in the future because of it.

      • Anonymous on June 02, 2015  ·  at 9:48 pm EST/EDT

And to truly enjoy Russian literature and poetry, everyone agrees there is no substitute for the original language, although they translate very well into English. Russian poetry is still amazing in English.

    • Seward on June 02, 2015  ·  at 1:20 pm EST/EDT

I found it easy. (Courtesy of U.S. Army 50 years ago, full time, 47 weeks.) The key is memorizing dialogs, the way we were taught: the new material four days a week (Fridays we saw movies, etc.) introduced via little two-page plays, two or there characters, which we learned all parts for the night before, took about two hours, then had to recite the first hour next day, taking any part. Afterward, we learned the grammar, etc., for the new material we just learned. Many available Russian primers work the same way, starting each lesson with a short dialog to memorize. Worked so well that when I was in Russia on a group tour last summer, after a short one-semester refresher course [Russian 102], it all came back to me. Could still, after 50 years, speak fluently, the grammar was instinctive, only my vocabulary was weak, but when I learned a new word, from signs, whatever, I could immediately use it correctly. Dialogs are the key.

    • Anonymous on June 02, 2015  ·  at 9:43 pm EST/EDT

It is slightly harder to learn than German, which is pretty hard already. Russian has one more case than German. The grammatical structure of both languages are similar to Latin. If you mastered Latin, then both German and Russian are within your grasp.

Here’s some indepth Turkey news and it isn’t good. I swear, US is on a winning roll with all their antics! Very discouraging.

I don’t understand the end of this article because what good will it do Russia to follow through on the Turkish Stream without Sebia and Macedonia support? Not only that, no Turkish Stream would also hurt Greece in the long run.

I wish Gazprom could tell them all exactly where to go…! I wish they could just stop all gas going to EU when contracts over and just not count on them as customers!

    http://journal-neo.org/2015/05/30/washington-is-targeting-russian-pipelines-yet-again/

    • Paul II on June 02, 2015  ·  at 2:47 am EST/EDT

Perhaps the point is that the EU declared war on Russia and Gazprom, so the response will be “If you want the gas, the only location is the Turkish Stream. The contracts don’t matter because you stopped all alternatives.” So a game of chicken. Russia needs the gas revenue less than some countries need the gas, so you are looking at a collapse of certain countries.

      • Butane on June 02, 2015  ·  at 5:04 am EST/EDT

So… If they spoil and block the Turkish stream then…go to Turkish Stream….its your only way to our gas..right?

The shenanigans of the EU retro-actively imposing such conditions as,

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Energy_Package

      will rebound disastrously.

Gazprom are only laying 1 pipeline at present not four in parallel, they know Turkey and Europe are unreliable, the hub will end near Greece’s door and customers will have to build their own pipelines.

I suspect that as soon as the takeup from China gets underway, Russia will have the last laugh Europe is bankrupt, let them build what they can!

    402m Drag (tank) Race

LPR tankers are racing the tanks they captured. A T-72 manufactured in 1986 against a 2005 Bulat [T-64BU], each with the best drivers of the 4th Separate Tank Battalion (formerly known as the Avgust Tank Battalion). Distance: 402 meters.

Turns out Bulat is grossly inferior when it comes to speed.

that’s so funny. I wonder how a US tank would stand up.

      • mmiriww on June 02, 2015  ·  at 7:53 am EST/EDT

The US does make the absolute best tanks in the world. The problem is, using them are damaging to the environment and the people inside of it. You only have to look at the so called UN forces in kosov where a dozen Italians have come down with cancer or the Iraqi’s.. The ammo and material were banned by the USSR the evil empire as being too dangerous.

Now you can see some US military personal stupid enough to come debate the issues such as depleted uranium is safe.. They don’t know depleted uranium is still uranium a heavy metal but not usable as a reactor fuel.

The US tanks also uses turbines.. Hence US soldiers don’t sit on top of their tanks in case they end up like the poor birds on airport runways. Another war machine dropped by the evil empire of the USSR.. The humanitarian Americans and their vassals have no qualms about using such things in civilian areas as they are safe. The evil empire is evil because they put their citizens in danger by placing such things out of harms way. In many situations, if the USSR did not have a similar war machine it was only because of such criteria and not because they were technologically behind. The US after all stole the stealth idea from a guy in Moscow.

During the first Iraq war there was a “race” between the russian T-90 and an Abrams. The latter got stuck in the sand after a few meters and is being titled a lame turd ever since in military circles.

T-64BM Bulat tanks were originally produced at Kharkiv in 1980.
Bulat pgrades were carried much later ( 2009 ), however the engine has reminded the same.
So considering that T-72 had improved 840 hp (630 kW) engine there is no wonder that T-72 won.

How to debunk the new bellingcat report:

    https://www.bellingcat.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Forensic_analysis_of_satellite_images_EN.pdf

-Download the infamous harvesting combine / artillery powerpoint image:

    https://02varvara.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/00-american-satellite-image-scam-11-09-14.jpg?w=1200&h=900

(This image is ideal, because nobody would photoshop harvesting combines into a field, and it is a very similar image)

-load into photoshop and save at .jpg quality 75%

    – resize and save again at 75 %

-submit to the site which was used by the Higgins team:

    http://29a.ch/sandbox/2012/imageerrorlevelanalysis/

    -et voilá!!! ;[)

This site debunks the report more extensively:

    https://z5h64q92x9.net/proxy_u/ru-en.en/ntv.livejournal.com/398128.html

    • Rootman on June 02, 2015  ·  at 4:33 pm EST/EDT

JPG quality between 75-50%, error scale between 10-14. Make the powerpoint additions look similar to the .ppt additions in the Higgins .pdf (that meant some resaving, as they appear blurred.) Apply on both!

This site rules! No need to go through photoshop! Just move the sliders intelligently! And argument how and why!

Besides should glory to ukraine and marching around like a bunch of idiots what else do they have?

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Group of Seven’s (G7) decision not to invite Russia to its upcoming 2015 summit in Bavaria will send a wrong, if not an overtly confrontational message, a former state secretary in the German Defense Ministry told Sputnik.

Anti-G7 Protesters to Appeal Bavaria Protest Camp Ban
“When the G7 leaders meet in Bavaria, we all feel that the Russian president should be there. Without him, the signal is confrontation or even war,” Willy Wimmer, who served as state secretary at the German Defense Ministry in the period 1988–1992, said.
The 41st G7 summit is scheduled to take place in the Bavarian Elmau Castle, outside Munich, on June 7-8, 2015. Germany took over the rotating G7 presidency last June.
G8 was an important club of the world’s largest economies. Russia joined it in 2008 and was to host a summit in Sochi in 2014. However, US and EU leaders snubbed the event, citing the split over the Ukraine crisis, and opted to meet in Brussels in a reduced format.

Born in Bavaria – a Mother of God loving country- ( a Freistaat > “free state ” in the FRG of nil sovereignty) , I strongly object to the most honourable president of the Russian Federation
having to be subjected to endure a stoic, unproductive, donkeylike patience (Eselsgeduld) towards the exposure to and presence of minions, stooges, US sheriffs , thugs, criminals, pathologic liars, fascist russophobes, gender disturbed entities, racists, bolshevik bankster reps, perverts, Babylonian Talmudists, neocolonial rapists, Bolshevic colour revolutionaries, mental .. castrates, amphetamine/cocaine wrecks, demented double agents, spineless boot (+arse) lickers… > Anglozionisic shyte (Scheisse).
After the for 2 – 10 years vile , racist a. belligerent Infowar and Psychowar and weatherwar and military provocations and murder , slaughter, imolations in Odessa, Slavyansk, Mariupol, the killing of priests, of civilians purposefully with the use of Geneva convention forbidden weapons ( phosphorus bombs , cluster bombs , high caliber bombs ( 120mm, 150mm, even nuclear sized “Totschkas”) and airforce ,: achieving the death of 6400 civilians, maiming 15 000 – the western
Goebbels streamlined (gleichgeschalted) corporate press acquiesced to the Kiev putsch regime’s fascist murderous dealings towards it’s own population and obliterated , censured and

actively engaged (US, Tel Aviv, MI 6 ) funded Nazi Guard, Nazi batallions (through regional multi passport oligarchs (robbers) ) in order to give Nato an entry into Russian territory. Once at the
river Pruth, in Bessarabia [Moldawia] , we shall stop these insane imperialistic desires. You’ ll see !
